, pronounced Kehm (rhymes with “them”) -sted (rhymes with “red”), is a life-long Washington resident. She grew up in Richland and graduated from Hanford High School in 1980. Her parents, Paul, a research scientist at PNNL, and Phyllis, a public health nurse, instilled Karen and her two older brothers with a deep sense of community and public service. Karen learned at an early age to be an active member of the community and to help others when needed. It was that philosophy which fueled Karen's passion for the law as a career. It is also why she continues to be a supporter of local and national charities.
Many of Karen's family have entered professions where they can continue their service to others. Her family includes nurses, teachers, pharmacists, and those who have served in law enforcement and in the armed forces. While all of them have worked hard to make good lives for themselves and their families, they all remain active in their communities.
Now, as an attorney who assists people in their time of need, Karen is able to directly effect the lives of her clients and their families. In family law cases, such as divorces, modifications and paternity cases, Karen is able to guide families through difficult times while fiercely advocating on her client's behalf. In criminal cases, that means defending her client's rights and liberties to the best of Karen's abilities.
